Spinadello Ex-Aqueduct Soundscape (2016)

Site-specific concert in the ex-aqueduct building and park

In 2016, Spazi Indecisi, association based in Forlì (IT) which works on the abandoned places of Romagna region, asked us to collaborate in the occasion of their exposition “Totally Lost”. They asked us to work on the soundscape of one of the abandoned building that they were able to regenerate, after attracting the interest of the Municipality. The interest in the Spinadello Ex-Aqueduct Building and Park was – and it is – the fact that after many years of abandon, the park became a truly nature reserve with a renewed ecosystem. Moreover, the building presented and presents a very specific and special acoustic, especially in the big interior basin, thanks to the ceramic tiles that cover the walls.

In this occasion we worked in a double way: outside in the park, we did field recording sessions to documenting the renewed ecological soundscape, while inside of the building, we tested the acoustic of the basin through our clapping hands, footsteps and using abandoned iron valves as percussions.

This research gave life to a double site-specific concert: outside the building playing with natural soundscape of the park; inside of it, improvising with musical instrument following the very big reverb of the basin.

Emiliano Battistini: field recording, electric guitar, effects;

Fabio Mina: field recording, flute, winds, effects;

Field recording sessions on September 9th and 10th 2016.
